Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup milk

For the Apple Filling:

  • 2 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and cored
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

For the Sauce:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and lemon juice. Stuff each apple with the mixture.
  1. Make the Dough:
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the milk until just combined.
  1. Assemble the Dumplings:
  • Divide the dough into equal pieces (about 6-8). Flatten each piece and wrap it around a stuffed apple, sealing the edges.
  1. Prepare the Sauce:
  • In a saucepan, combine the water, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and butter. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for a few minutes.

  • Place the dumplings in a greased baking dish. Pour the sauce over them.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the dumplings are golden and the apples are tender.
