Apple dumplings are a delicious treat! Here’s a classic recipe for you:

Apple Dumplings

Ingredients:

For the Dumplings:

  • 2 large apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Syrup:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Apples:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Peel and core the apples, leaving the bottoms intact. You can cut a small slice off the bottom if needed to help them stand.
  1. Make the Dough:
  • In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  • Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the sugar, milk, and vanilla until just combined.
  1. Wrap the Apples:
  • Divide the dough into two portions. Roll out each portion into a circle about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Place one apple in the center of each dough circle. You can add a bit of sugar and cinnamon inside the apples if you like.
  • Fold the dough around the apple and pinch to seal.
  1. Make the Syrup:
  • In a saucepan, combine the water, brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter. Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar dissolves.
  1. Bake:
  • Place the wrapped apples in a greased baking dish. Pour the syrup over the dumplings.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and the apples are tender.
  1. Serve:
  • Let them cool slightly before serving. These are wonderful with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!
